Five-year vision unveiled for Goondiwindi region

Goondiwindi Regional Council has unveiled a new Corporate Plan outlining its vision for the Goondiwindi region over the next five years.

The Plan outlines a vision to strengthen the region’s thriving country lifestyle and prosperous economy.

“Over the next five years, we will work towards this vision to strengthen Council and ultimately to make our region an even better place to live,” Goondiwindi Regional Council CEO Carl Manton said.

The Plan provides a strategic framework for enhancing the quality lifestyle that communities in the Goondiwindi region currently enjoy. The overall vision can be broken down into four key goals for the region:

•           A thriving community

•           A sustainable region

•           A high-performing organisation

•           A strong economy

“The Corporate Plan will form the basis of everything we do as a council,” said Mr Manton.

“From developing the Budget to our Annual Report, every decision will align with and work towards achieving the vision as set out in the Plan.”

Mr Manton said that capitalising on our traditional industry strengths while promoting new forms of high-value economic activity were key to the region’s transformation into a prosperous regional economy.

“Council understands that significant challenges lay ahead, and we need to carefully manage the growth of the region by balancing the competing demands of financial, social and environmental pressures,” Mr Manton said.

“The deliverables in this Plan will help manage these challenges.”

Mayor of the Goondiwindi region Graeme Scheu said he was confident that a continued commitment by Council and the community to work together would benefit current and future residents.

“We look forward to delivering the strategies identified in the Goondiwindi Regional Council Corporate Plan 2019 – 2024 for the benefit of the communities we serve.”

State Government legislation requires every local council in Queensland to have a five-year Corporate Plan.

The Annual Operational Plan and Council Budget will be monitored by Council throughout each year (quarterly) and will be used as the basis of reporting performance through Council’s Annual Report.
