Councillor Rob Mackenzie has been named as the new Deputy Mayor of the Goondiwindi region at the Post-Election Meeting held by the incoming Council this morning.

Council has confirmed that its first Ordinary Meeting will take place on Wednesday 22 April 2020 from 9am-1pm. Future Ordinary Meetings will continue to be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 9am-1pm.

Cr Springborg said he was looking forward to working together closely with Cr Mackenzie, along with the other Councillors, over the next four years.

“Cr Mackenzie will serve his third term as a Councillor in the Goondiwindi region and so I know that he will bring a wealth of experience to his new role as Deputy Mayor,” Cr Springborg said.

“He, myself and our fellow Councillors are absolutely focusing on the current and future needs of the region.  We are looking forward to travelling the region to serve the needs of our residents and businesses as current circumstances allow.”

The Mayor also expressed his sincere thanks to Cr Rick Kearney, who had served as Deputy Mayor on the Goondiwindi Regional Council for three terms since amalgamation in 2008, and as the Chair for the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Goondiwindi region since 2009.

“I have to thank Cr Kearney for his generosity and service to this Council as Deputy Mayor for the previous three terms, and for all his work and service to the region more broadly as LDMG Chair since 2009,” the Mayor said.

“I know that his expertise and experience will be invaluable to the collective decision-making of the current Council.”
