Struggling with watering hours? Council can help

« Back

Goondiwindi Regional Council is encouraging residents to apply for a Water Restriction Exemption or Variation if they are struggling to meet the current permitted watering hours.

The Honourable Lawrence Springborg, Mayor of the Goondiwindi region, said that as the days are getting shorter, Council will be working with applications on a case-by-case basis to find a solution that would meet the individual’s needs.

Cr Springborg also said that Council will review the permitted watering hours for the winter months.

“I really encourage residents and businesses to get in touch with Council about an exemption or variation if needed,” Cr Springborg said.

“It’s about working together to find a solution that fits individual scenarios, but that still follows restrictions and does the right thing by the rest of our community.”

Yelarbon is currently on low water restrictions, with sprinklers and hand-held hoses permitted between 6-8am and 6-8pm on allotted days. Bucket watering is permitted at any time.

Goondiwindi and Texas remain on medium level restrictions, with sprinklers and hand-held hoses permitted between 6-7am and 6-7pm on allotted days. Bucket watering is also permitted at any time.

More information about each restriction level is available on Council’s website at www.grc.qld.gov.au/water-restrictions.

“Unfortunately, it would simply be impossible for Council to be able to schedule watering hours that would suit everyone in our community,” Cr Springborg said.

“So we will be doing our best to work with residents and businesses to find a solution that fits their individual scenario. We’re also acutely aware of just how important gardens and green spaces are for our community right now – especially for those who are currently in isolation or who need to stay at home.”
