The Texas swimming pool will be under new management when it opens in September, Goondiwindi Regional Council announced yesterday [27 May].

Local pool manager Naomi Phillips was awarded the lease in Council’s meeting yesterday. Ms Phillips will now manage the public swimming pools in both Inglewood and Texas.

Service will continue as normal across both community pools.

CEO of Goondiwindi Regional Council Carl Manton praised the quality of the applicants for the new lease and offered his congratulations to Ms Phillips.

“It’s typically very hard to find managers of regional pools, but here in the Goondiwindi region we’ve been very fortunate to have multiple quality applicants,” Mr Manton said.

“I think we all know the value of our public pools not only to ourselves as individuals but to our community as a whole,” Mr Manton said.

“I hope everybody will join me in welcoming Naomi to the role and wishing her the best of luck for the next season.”

Council’s Sport and Recreation portfolio holder, Councillor Lachlan Brennan, said that Council considered a number of factors, and had to prioritise the quality of the service provider along with the value to ratepayers.

“When making decisions of this nature, Council acts as the guardians of ratepayer money and is obligated to ensure that money is spent wisely,” Cr Brennan said.

All the public swimming pools in the Goondiwindi region are owned by Goondiwindi Regional Council, but the management of those pools is leased privately. The Texas pool lease will run for three years, with the option for the lease to extend for another two seasons.
