New Disaster Dashboard is one-stop shop for essential info during emergencies

Residents and visitors in the Goondiwindi region can keep up to date with live information about any road closures, power outages and river crossing heights in the region without needing to leave their home – thanks to the launch of Goondiwindi Regional Council’s new ‘Disaster Dashboard’.

The interactive dashboard is available on Council’s website and presents all available live information in one place, from sites like Queensland Transport and the Bureau of Meteorology. Residents will be able to see emergency news, road closures, river gauge heights, power outages, flood mapping, emergency contacts and any other disaster management arrangements currently in place.

The project is funded by the State Government’s Get Ready Queensland Program – delivered through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) – which supports locally-led resilience building projects and activities across the state.

Queensland Treasurer and Minister responsible for the QRA Cameron Dick said if communities like Goondiwindi are more resilient they can recover from disaster more efficiently and effectively.

“Disaster resilience means we understand the potential disaster risks we face, we work together to better manage disaster risk, and we continually improve how we prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters,” Mr Dick said.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Councillor Rick Kearney said the new dashboard would enable residents and visitors in the region to make informed decisions during times of disaster and extreme weather events.

“The Disaster Dashboard will show everything you want to know in one place, using the most up-to-date and reliable information available,” he said.

“During a disaster, I would encourage everyone in the Goondiwindi region to consider it as their first source of trustworthy information – it’s a one-stop shop. It will help you to make informed, safe decisions about the situation at hand,” Cr Kearney said.

“Programs such as Get Ready Queensland provide invaluable support to local governments as they plan to keep their communities safe during disasters,” Cr Kearney said.
