Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM has praised the quality and choice of the education options offered in the Goondiwindi Region following the opening of a new Secondary Wing at Border Rivers Christian College.

Cr Springborg officially declared the new wing open on Friday [7 May] alongside chairman of the school board Ivan Waldock.

“The growth and success of this school is a credit to all those involved,” Cr Springborg said. “Their incredible drive and motivation have seen the school grow from just 19 students six years ago to around one hundred children enrolled now – and that number is growing exponentially.

“As the local state member at the time the school was first mooted, it’s a particular pleasure for me to be able to attend the ceremony today and to see first-hand how far it’s come,” he said.

Established in 2015, the Border Rivers Christian College operates from Preparatory to Year 12 in a co-educational setting. The Goondiwindi Christian Church sponsors the school, which operates on a non-denominational basis.

Cr Springborg said the school’s growth and success added to the Goondiwindi Region’s reputation for educational excellence.

“The reputation of the school is going from strength to strength and attracting people from near and far – as I understand it, some families are travelling from more than 200 kilometres away for their children to attend,” the Mayor said.

“The opening of this new wing heralds a bright and prestigious future for the school, which, in turn, further cements the Goondiwindi Region’s reputation for quality education options.”

The Goondiwindi Region is home to 13 schools from Talwood in the west through to Inglewood in the east. It includes a range of both private and public schools in various denominations, as well as non-denominational options.

Various childcare options are also available across a range of towns in the region.

“We’re in quite a unique and fortunate position here to have some exceptional schooling options locally,” Cr Springborg said.

“The availability of so many excellent education options to choose from is a really important part of our region’s liveability and supports our reputation as ‘Regional Australia at its Best’.
