Town Christmas tree lights up Goondiwindi

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Goondiwindi with the town Christmas tree to light up from this evening.

The tree has been upgraded from previous years and Mayor Graeme Scheu invited all residents to see it for themselves to get into the festive spirit on their next trip to town.

Works are currently underway to finish installing the 7-metre tall tree, which will feature a new section of garlands beneath the lights and new stars at the top.

The tree is located on the roundabout at the junction of Marshall Street and Herbert Street and will be lit up every evening from now until after Christmas.

Christmas-themed banners have also been installed in the Goondiwindi, Inglewood and Texas CBDs for the festive season.

‘The Goondiwindi region really shines during the holidays and it’s always a great time for families to get together,’ said Cr Scheu.

‘We’re kicking off with Christmas carols at the Botanic Gardens this Saturday, we have races and markets across the region throughout December, and of course the Lions Christmas Eve Fireworks.’

One of the region’s favourite holiday celebrations is Goondiwindi Regional Council’s Christmas lights competition and Mayor Scheu encouraged residents to join in the celebrations by taking part.

Prizes will be awarded for the towns of Goondiwindi and Western Townships (combined townships of Talwood, Toobeah and Bungunya). Judging will take place on the evening of Friday 14 December 2018.

To nominate an outstanding Christmas lights display in Goondiwindi (Western Townships are automatically entered), contact Customer Service on 4671 7400 or e-mail the nomination to mail@grc.qld.gov.au by 4pm Friday 14 December 2018. Please ensure that your lights are switched on for your chance to win!
