Goondiwindi Regional Council regulatory officers have recently been enforcing parking regulations in the Goondiwindi Central Business District (CBD) after numerous complaints, particularly about business owners and their staff, parking in the limited 2-hour parking zones (Marshall Street and Herbert Street) all day.

Council encourages those who work within the CBD to make use of the free all-day car parks located at McLean Street, Bowen Street x 2, and Callandoon Street.

There are more than 140 unrestricted parking places in these car parks, as well as many streets adjoining Marshall and Herbert Street that have unrestricted parking suitable for larger vehicles.

The car park known as the ‘Co-op car park’ on Bowen Street is now a Council asset, which means it can be used for parking by anyone. This change in ownership ensures customers of Foodworks, as well as the general public, can utilise available car park spaces at any time.

The Goondiwindi CBD is limited to two-hour parking between the hours of 8.30 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday and 8.30 am - 12 noon on Saturdays.

The 2-hour parking limit in the CBD is in place to ensure parking spaces are available for short-term visitors, shoppers, and other users who need to park briefly.

Deputy Mayor Cr Rob Mackenzie who holds the portfolio for Waste, Regulatory Services, and Town Planning urges business owners and their staff to use off-street parking spaces.

“By using all-day parking available in McLean Street, Bowen Street, and Callandoon Street, less than a 100-metre walk away, you help free up the main street parking for potential customers, contributing to the success of local businesses.

“Supporting retailers and other businesses means ensuring that parking spaces are available for as many potential shoppers as possible, which requires a frequent turnover of parked vehicles,” Cr Mackenzie said.
