NOVEMBER 30 FINAL DAY OF FREE CAMPING

The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME), have recommended that the 30th November 2018 be the last day for free camping at Redmond Park.  Yesterday Goondiwindi Regional Council resolved to accept this date.

Cr Graeme Scheu explained that signs will be erected and the Redmond Park site would revert to its designated uses as per the lease Council has with the State of Queensland, as of the November 30 deadline. Council will undertake an advisory campaign explaining the alternative riverside free camping options that have all recently received a makeover.

The 30 November date, follows the September 26 meeting where Goondiwindi Regional Council accepted the DNRME’s preliminary advice that the camping trial not be extended.  Council had requested a transition period and a reasonable final cease date for free camping.

Council has welcomed news that some caravan parks in Goondiwindi have indicated their willingness to introduce Low Cost Camping options and Council will work with these local businesses to include low cost camping options in our tourism promotion resources.
