Goondiwindi Regional Council is closely monitoring the development of Cyclone Alfred.

At this stage, it is unlikely that the cyclone will directly impact our region.

The most likely impact for our area is rainfall, particularly if the cyclone degrades into a rain depression. It is difficult to predict how much rain and where it will fall. If Cyclone Alfred continues on its current predicted path, this could lead to river rises which may affect communities.

Additionally, the cyclone may lead to road access disruptions and supply chain interruptions.

We urge residents to remain calm and stay informed and take reasonable preparatory measures, as we always do, including:

  • Ensure you have adequate medications and consider filling scripts now in case of delays.
  • Reviewing and replenishing emergency kits. For a comprehensive emergency kit checklist, please visit Emergency Survival Kit List | Get Ready QLD
  • Staying informed of the latest developments through reliable sources
  • Check the latest weather, warnings, and rainfall at the Bureau of Meteorology Queensland website.
  • Check road closures at the QLD Traffic website if travelling outside our local government area.
  • Follow our local council disaster dashboard here.

Goondiwindi Regional Council is undertaking standard disaster management preparedness activities.

We encourage all residents to stay aware and prepared. Queensland Emergency Services and Council will provide clear directions should the advice change.

Across south-east Queensland and the Darling Downs region, rainfall is expected to increase and intensify as the week progresses. We urge drivers to please drive to the conditions and remember - If it’s flooded, forget it.
