Goondiwindi Regional Council supports Texas Sports Complex Masterplan

Goondiwindi Regional Council collaborated with key stakeholders and is pleased to announce the acceptance of a new Texas Sports Complex Masterplan.
The Masterplan was developed with input from the Texas Terriers Football Club, MIT Jets junior rugby representatives, and the Texas State School and Council staff to tackle high and medium-priority initiatives.
Councillor Kym Skinner, who holds the portfolio for Lifestyle and Education, said Council has developed a strong working relationship with key stakeholders of the Texas Sports Complex.
“Council has committed to providing additional annual maintenance to the playing field and has also prioritised funding to replace the travelling irrigator with pop-up irrigation, which will further improve the field conditions and make it easier on the Council team to maintain.
“Further high-priority repairs included fixing the damaged floor in the container to provide storage for the junior rugby team and repairing the roller doors on the canteen and bar,” Councillor Skinner said.
The process has also identified that the current field lighting is reaching the end of its useful life. Council will now work with the Texas Terriers to develop a new lighting plan and source external funding to upgrade field lighting to ensure we continue to meet NRL standards for training.
“The lighting has served us well for decades, but we are now facing an issue with the availability of bulbs for repairs and maintenance. We will therefore ultimately require upgraded lights in the coming years.
“The collaboration between Council and key stakeholders in developing this Masterplan reflects our commitment to community sports and recreation, ensuring the Texas Sports Complex remains a centre for sporting opportunities for the Texas community.
“By identifying these strategic maintenance requirements and upgrades in the Masterplan, all parties have a clear plan and can work together to prepare for funding opportunities, confident that the implementation of these projects will progress.
“Medium-priority activities such as an awning extension have also been approved, provided that the existing high-priority activities are finalised,” Cr Skinner said.
The Texas Sports Complex, a council-owned and operated facility, has evolved significantly since its early beginnings with basic facilities. The Complex now boasts a function room, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, dressing sheds, disabled and gender-specific toilet facilities, a bar, and a canteen.
