Inglewood Town Clock Receives Upgrade with Digital Display
Published on 08 November 2024
The Inglewood Town Clock, an iconic feature located outside the Civic Centre building, has been given an upgrade. The $25,000 Council contribution towards this project underscores the clock's importance to the community.
Councillor Susie Kelly, portfolio holder of Community Facilities highlighted Council’s commitment to preserving the clock’s function while embracing modern technology.
"The tower structure itself remains; it's only the irreparable clock that we’ve upgraded. 2 years ago, as reported to the community we announced the need to replace the clock. Council has investigated the replacement options with a preference for a similar analogue weatherproof solution to keep with the original style and purpose. However, analogue clocks are expensive to purchase and even more expensive to maintain, with the skills for repairs and replacement parts hard to source," Cr Kelly explained.
The new digital clock is generally easier to read for motorists, enhancing its functionality for residents and visitors alike. While it will not provide events or key activity messages like the other electronic notice boards, it will still serve as a reliable timekeeping tool.
Goondiwindi Regional Council manages six electronic noticeboards across the region - three in Goondiwindi, two in Inglewood (excluding the clock tower), and one in Texas. Local community groups are encouraged to submit via our website their events to Council to advertise on electronic notice boards.
This project underscores Council's commitment to blending tradition with modernity, ensuring the Inglewood Town Clock remains a reliable and cherished landmark.
Rural Youth donated the original clock to the community, and Council is open to suggestions about where this clock could be displayed in town as a recognition of the town's history. Please contact one of your local Councillors or submit your idea via mail@grc.qld.gov.au.
