Weengallon Hall has undergone a fresh interior makeover, funded by the Goondiwindi Regional Council.

The $25,000 painting project was completed by a local painter and recognises the important role community halls play in our rural communities as well as Council’s commitment to ensuring they are up-kept and in good condition.

Cr Susie Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Community Facilities, said funding for the works was prioritised to support the future use of the much-loved community space.

“The hall is the hub of the Weengallon community, the community is proud of it. It hosts important community events so it is important to ensure the hall is in great shape for future events,” Cr Kelly said. “Weengallon is a valued part of our region and investing in facilities like this hall helps to keep our communities connected and thriving.”

Cr Kelly further emphasised Council’s commitment to preserving and enhancing existing community infrastructure, particularly where it aligns with community needs and broader strategic priorities.

In partnership with Council, the Weengallon Show and Sporting Association has also recently developed a master plan for future improvements, which includes the addition of a new on-site amenities block.

“Council encourages community groups using Council assets to undergo strategic planning  to develop master plans, so there is a mutual understanding within the groups but also between Council and the group. Funding programs look favourably on groups who have projects that link back to plans and we want our groups to be well situated to be able to secure external funding for the projects they wish to undertake,” stated Cr Kelly. “Master plans for facilities like the Weengallon Hall will help ensure it remains an essential venue for gatherings and celebrations for many years.”

The freshly painted hall will serve as an excellent backdrop for events like the popular Weengallon Campdraft and the Weengallon Christmas Tree, as well as a welcoming space for the weekly kindergarten and daycare programs.

“I’d like to give a big shout out to the Weengallon Campdraft, coming up on the 23rd and 24th of August. For many years, the committee has run a successful junior event in June, and it’s great to see them bringing back an open campdraft this year. Well done to the entire committee for their passion and dedication” Cr Kelly said.
