Goondiwindi Regional Council is pleased to announce the completion of a brand-new footpath at the racecourse end of Moffatt Street, Goondiwindi and into McDougall Street. This new footpath further expands on the region's commitment to functional and safe spaces for residents and visitors.
The project will cost approximately $65,000 and is co-funded by Council and Australian Government funding of $24,053 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program. The LRCI program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia. This investment underscores Council's dedication to enhancing our local walking network and fostering a vibrant, healthy community.
Cr Jason Watts, Council’s portfolio holder for Transport, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. "This new footpath on Moffatt/ McDougall Street is a fantastic addition to our community," Cr Watts said. "It provides a safe and accessible pathway for people of all ages to enjoy, whether they're walking to school, home from the races, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll.
"Investing in infrastructure like this is an investment in the health and wellbeing of our residents. By expanding our walking network, we are encouraging more people to get active and experience the beautiful Goondiwindi region on foot. We are committed to creating spaces that promote healthy lifestyles, and this footpath is another step in that direction," he said.
The Moffatt/ McDougall Street footpath integrates into the broader Goondiwindi walking network, enhancing the liveability and accessibility throughout the town.
