Entry upgrade puts best foot forward for Goondiwindi PCYC

The Goondiwindi PCYC will put its best foot forward this month with an upgrade to the outdoor entryway to improve drainage and accessibility for all visitors to the busy centre.
Goondiwindi Regional Council will remove approximately 80m² of exterior tiles at the main entrance of the Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre, known locally as the Goondiwindi PCYC.
Cr Kym Skinner holds Council’s sports fields and facilities portfolio and said the replacement concrete entryway will improve rainwater runoff and ensure a safer, more welcoming entryway for all visitors.
“The main entry to the PCYC is under a portico but otherwise open to the elements,” Cr Skinner said.
“Over time, structural movement has led to some poor drainage in the area, causing water to pool in wet weather,” she said.
“This upgrade will not only address a long-standing drainage issue, but it will also make the entrance safer and more accessible for everyone who visits the centre.”
Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 7 July, with completion expected by the end of the week. Access to the main doors will be restricted during construction, with the PCYC to advise members of alternative access arrangements.
The Goondiwindi Indoor Sports Centre is a Council-owned facility. Though it has been managed under a lease by the Police Citizens and Youth Club Queensland since its construction in 2006, it remains a community facility. It offers a range of services and facilities for the local community, including air-conditioned gym access, multipurpose playing courts, a boxing room, and youth development services.
“This is an important investment in a much-used community facility,” Cr Skinner said. “The Goondiwindi PCYC is a vibrant hub that supports local schools, youth, and the broader community.”
Council has engaged a local contractor to carry out the concreting works. The upgrade has been planned for the school holidays to minimise disruption, particularly as local schools use the PCYC for sport lessons.
Council and the PCYC thank the community for its patience and understanding while these essential improvements are delivered.
