Council has commenced the next phase of the Goondiwindi CBD Streetscape project.  Preliminary designs are progressing alongside further consultation, documentation and cost estimates of the overall Master Plan.

Following concept designs completed in 2022 and consultation with the Goondiwindi Regional community in early 2023 to further develop plans for the Central Business District (CBD) area, Council is progressing the proposed preliminary design which now encompasses Marshall Street, Bowen Street and Macintyre River boat ramp area.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said, Goondiwindi’s CBD is a service centre for thousands of residents, tourists and visitors.

“The rejuvenation of the main street will enable us to further showcase our town, our region and what we represent – which is Regional Australia at its best.”

Council continues its commitment to engage community and key stakeholder groups during the project. A key focus of consultation during the preliminary design process is to ensure any disruption to local businesses and residents during the delivery of the project is minimised.

A community steering committee has been formed which includes representatives from the Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce as well as other representatives from three separate sections of the CBD. This group will get a first look at the preliminary plans this week and may discuss these with others within the CBD in order to provide preliminary feedback prior to the concepts being readied for wider public consultation. The entire community will have the opportunity to review the plans and provide feedback as part of this later consultation process.

Following the development of the preliminary design, Council will move to a detailed engineering design phase that will provide construction plans, specification and contract documentation in preparation for staged streetscape construction.

The anticipated timeframes for the delivery of this project include:

  • Project kick off – early 2025
  • Preliminary design development – early to mid 2025
  • Public exhibition – mid 2025
  • Finalise preliminary design – mid to late 2025
