Play equipment and bark softfall

Goondiwindi Regional Council will begin upgrading the softfall surface around the play area at Zacka Park in Goondiwindi this Friday, 23 May 2025.

The new works will take about a week to replace the existing bark with approximately 200m2 of rubber softfall under and around the existing play equipment.

The upgrades will make the play area more presentable, require less maintenance, and improve user safety by allowing hazards to be identified easier.

The new softfall material will also have a longer life span than the existing bark.

“Park upgrades will continue to be a priority,” said Cr Kym Skinner, who holds Council's Lifestyle and Education portfolio. “We are fortunate to have so many well-presented and maintained parks and gardens for residents and visitors alike.”

Council manages 24 parks across the region.

This latest upgrade builds on other recent playground improvements, including the replacement of softfall at the Goondiwindi Natural Heritage and Water Park last year. The upgraded surface at Zacka Park will be the same type of softfall as the Water Park project.

As well as a play area, Zacka Park, on the corner of Paul Bradley Drive and James Ryan Avenue, also includes a picnic table and shelter, making it a popular stop for residents.

Repair works to the softfall at Goondiwindi Town Park will also be completed at the same time as the Zacka Park upgrades.

“Council is committed to enhancing our community spaces to the highest standards,” said Cr Skinner.

“We want to thank residents for their patience while these works get underway. Once it reopens in early June, it will be with an upgraded surface area for families to enjoy.”
