Based on current Bureau of Meteorology predictions Cyclone Alfred will transition to a low-pressure system / rain depression well before it reaches our local government area.

Cyclones are unpredictable, and whilst there isn’t substantial rainfall predicted for our region, we’re encouraging residents to stay informed as conditions could change. Council is monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates should the current advice change.

Goondiwindi Regional Council is undertaking standard disaster management preparedness activities to prepare in case of significant rainfall.

Every storm season Goondiwindi Regional Council encourages all residents to have an emergency kit ready and this current Bureau of Meteorology warning is an opportunity to review and replenish your household kits, just in case.

For the latest weather forecasts and warnings, please use reliable sources particularly:

  • Goondiwindi Regional Council updates: Go to GRC Disaster Dashboard
  • Weather warnings: Go to Bureau of Meteorology Queensland warnings page.
  • Traffic information and closed roads: Go to QLD Traffic or call 13 19 40.
  • Listen to your local radio station ABC local radio - 92.7FM, 104.9FM or 747AM

Council continues to raise concerns on behalf of our community about the current connectivity issues in our region that may impact emergency alert SMS’s.  However, the current weather advice for the Goondiwindi Region, means this emergency alert system is unlikely to be activated in this event.  Residents that are aware of connectivity issues at their residence should ensure that they keep up to date via radio or using alternate satellite connections, if available, for accessing online resources.

Remember, always drive to conditions. If it’s flooded, forget it.
