A successful Community Cabinet wraps up in the Goondiwindi region

Goondiwindi Regional Council has welcomed the Crisafulli Government’s Queensland Government Cabinet to Goondiwindi over the weekend, providing an opportunity for residents, businesses and community representatives from across the region and further afield to have direct conversations with Queensland Government Ministers.
Mayor Lawrence Springborg AM said “We saw people from across the Goondiwindi region come along to the community afternoon tea and participate in deputations with Ministers.”
“By all reports, the conversations were diverse and constructive, with people raising issues and opportunities important to strengthening our regional economy, communities and way of life.
“My fellow Councillors and I also had the opportunity to raise a broad cross-section of issues directly with Ministers, from road conditions and police resourcing, including the needs of our smaller towns, through to water policy, regulatory challenges and the practical issues that come with being a border community.
“We understand there was strong interest in the Goondiwindi Community Cabinet program, with key meeting opportunities oversubscribed.
“We have already seen an announcement following the Cabinet meeting, with $2.9 million from the Residential Activation Fund for the Hanna Development project to fast-track up to one hundred homes in Goondiwindi. This investment will go a long way to addressing our housing shortage and an impediment to attracting government and private sector employees.
“We expect further announcements and engagement to come from the issues raised during Community Cabinet, and Council looks forward to continuing to work with the Queensland Government on matters important to our region.
“On behalf of Goondiwindi Regional Council, I thank Premier Crisafulli and the Queensland Government for bringing Cabinet to Goondiwindi, and I thank the Ministers, community members, businesses and organisations who took the time to participate.
“Regional Queensland has plenty of challenges, but it also has plenty of solutions. The opportunity to put both directly to Government is valuable, and we look forward to seeing the outcomes from the visit,” said the Mayor.
