The Census is one of the most important data collections undertaken in Australia, and it has a direct impact on regional communities like ours.

Goondiwindi Regional Council is genuinely concerned about Census participation across our region.

Our greatest concern is that if people don't complete the Census, it won't accurately reflect the true size and make-up of our region. That has real consequences because Census data is used by governments to plan services, infrastructure and funding for years to come.

We've already seen Census data used to inform funding and infrastructure decisions, so it's critical that our region is accurately represented.

We also recognise there are some practical challenges this year.

Many people across our region have told us they are concerned about the move towards completing the Census online, particularly where internet connectivity is unreliable or people are less confident using digital services.

We're also disappointed there are very limited opportunities to access paper Census forms locally, and no local Census representative available for residents who need assistance or have questions.

For a region covering almost 20,000 square kilometres, those support arrangements are particularly important. Council has raised these concerns on behalf of our residents.

Despite these concerns, our message is simple: please complete your Census.

Whether you complete it online or request a paper form, taking part is one of the most important things you can do to help represent our region accurately.

Every person counts, every household counts, and every completed Census helps build a stronger case for future investment in our communities.

I encourage everyone across the Goondiwindi Region to make the time to participate and, if you know someone who may need assistance, encourage them to take part as well.
