Council has welcomed the permanent appointment of Mr Bob Gee APM as Queensland’s new Cross-Border Commissioner.
Mr Gee brings extensive experience to the role, having served as a police officer and as Director-General in several Queensland Government departments. He is familiar with the region and the achievements of former Cross-Border Commissioner, Mr Ian Leavers.
Council believes Mr Gee’s experience uniquely positions him to understand government processes and drive reforms that benefit border communities.
The Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said, “This appointment provides confidence that the issues impacting border residents and businesses will continue to be understood and addressed at the highest levels.”
Importantly, Mr Gee’s background provides a strong understanding of cross-border issues affecting the Goondiwindi region. This includes understanding policing and other agency challenges, having previously attended a Goondiwindi Region cross-border crime prevention meeting as Director-General of the Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support.
Mr Gee’s first official visit as Cross-Border Commissioner will be to Goondiwindi next week, where he will meet with local stakeholders and councillors.
Council also thanks Premier David Crisafulli for his continued commitment to the Cross-Border Commissioner role and for appointing an experienced leader.
Council extends its sincere thanks to Mr Damien Walker for his leadership and dedication as Acting Cross-Border Commissioner in recent months.
