Talwood Recognised as an RV Friendly Town
Published on 21 August 2026
Talwood has officially been recognised as an RV Friendly Town by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA), joining a growing network of destinations across Australia that welcome and cater for self-contained recreational vehicle travellers.
The CMCA RV Friendly Town program aims to create a partnership between RV travellers and the towns they visit, helping communities maximise the economic and tourism benefits of the growing self-contained RV market.
To qualify for the program, towns must successfully meet the needs of self-contained RV travellers and satisfy key criteria including:
- Access to a general shopping area
- Provision of appropriate low-cost overnight parking for self-contained vehicles
- Access to potable water and a free dump point
Talwood's recognition reflects the town's ability to provide these essential facilities, with donation camping available at the Talwood Recreation Grounds. The grounds offer spacious sites, toilets, hot showers and a dump point, along with open green spaces and a playground for families.
Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, said the recognition was another positive step in showcasing Talwood and the region's welcoming rural communities.
"This is a wonderful achievement for Talwood and a reflection of the community's commitment to providing a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors," Cr Springborg said.
"RV travellers make a valuable contribution to local economies by spending in our communities, and this recognition will encourage even more travellers to stop, stay and discover everything Talwood has to offer."
While in Talwood, travellers are encouraged to support local businesses, including the Talwood Community Store for supplies and takeaway food, and the local hotel, renowned for its excellent country pub meals. Visitors can also enjoy the town's newest attraction – the charming tree lighting installation in the main street – providing another reason to stop and explore.
Cr Springborg thanked the Talwood community for its continued support of local tourism, with particular recognition given to the Talwood Community Store.
"A special thank you goes to the Talwood Community Store for its assistance in collecting camping donations, which go back to the local Talwood & District Community Centre committee, and its ongoing commitment to supporting tourism and visitors to the community," Cr Springborg said.
"Initiatives like these demonstrate the strong community spirit that makes Talwood such a welcoming destination. It's the combined efforts of local volunteers, businesses and residents that create memorable experiences for visitors."
The benefits of RV Friendly Town status extend beyond simply providing facilities for travellers. CMCA promotes recognised towns to its members and the broader self-contained RV community through its magazine, The Wanderer, website and social media channels.
With the self-contained RV tourism market estimated to be worth more than $2.5 billion annually, the program provides Talwood with an opportunity to attract more visitors, encourage overnight stays and support local businesses.
Cr Springborg said Talwood's recognition also complemented the region's existing RV Friendly Towns.
"Talwood joins Yelarbon, Inglewood, Texas and Goondiwindi as officially recognised RV Friendly Towns, demonstrating our region's commitment to providing quality facilities and genuine country hospitality for visitors," Cr Springborg said.
"The Goondiwindi Region is proud to offer travellers a collection of welcoming communities, each with its own unique character and experiences. Whether visitors are exploring our natural attractions, enjoying local hospitality or supporting small businesses, they can expect a warm welcome throughout the region."
The recognition further strengthens Talwood's reputation as a friendly country destination where visitors can relax, experience authentic rural hospitality and discover what makes the Goondiwindi Region a great place to visit.
