Goondiwindi Regional Council celebrates the start of a new swim season with approximately $30,000 in upgrades completed this week at the Texas Swimming Pool, providing a range of improvements designed to enhance the accessibility and functionality of the facility.

The works include upgrades to both the male and female changerooms, improved lighting and a range of maintenance improvements that will support the long-term operation of the pool.

Councillor Susie Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Rural Services, Community Facilities and Technology, said the project reflects Council's commitment to maintaining valued community facilities across the region.

“Council is committed to continuing to invest in facilities that support the health, wellbeing and recreational needs of our communities,” Cr Kelly said.

“This investment is about maintaining and improving a valued community asset so it can continue to be enjoyed by local residents and visitors for years to come.”

A significant portion of the works focused on the male changeroom, including the installation of three new shower cubicles and two privacy cubicles made from compact, highly water-resistant material. The improvements have been carried through to the female changeroom, with older internal doors being replaced to match the male changeroom. All cubicles have been fitted with ambulant style doors which will improve accessibility and increase circulation space within the cubicle.

Minor repairs have been completed in the female shower area, while other improvements include replacing an ageing privacy wall, sealing potential bird entry points and upgrading lighting throughout the facility. LED lighting has been installed in the changerooms, with additional lighting added to improve visibility and a spotlight on the pool light tower also replaced.

The project also included operational improvements that will make the facility easier to maintain, including the installation of hose reels in both changerooms and upgrades to some of the pool's pipework and valve infrastructure.

“Improving the changerooms, lighting and other facilities creates a more practical and welcoming environment for pool users, while also making it easier to maintain the facility,” Cr Kelly said.

“Texas Pool is an important facility for the community, and these upgrades will make a real difference to the people who use it.”

The upgrades complement the Pelican Pool Hoist installed earlier this year, which assists people with disabilities, older residents and those with limited mobility to access the pool safely and independently.

Portfolio Holder for Lifestyle and Education, Cr Kym Skinner, said Council is committed to ensuring the pool is welcoming to all members of the community.

“These improvements help ensure the Texas Swimming Pool remains an accessible facility for all members of the community to enjoy during the warmer months.” said Cr Skinner.
