Inglewood’s recently refurbished Casa Mia has welcomed new tenants.
Goondiwindi Regional Council is pleased to welcome new residents, Neville Braden and Sybil Davis, who occupy two of the five upgraded independent units. With the recent approval of the final three units, all units have now been successfully tenanted.
The modernised independent living Casa Mia facility offers more affordable housing options for eligible seniors in the Inglewood community.
Born in Inglewood and having run his bed and breakfast, Neville is no stranger to paperwork, so he was pleasantly surprised at how streamlined the process was. “Filling out the paperwork was made especially easy with the invaluable help from the council,” he stated. “The whole process was relatively quick, and I like that I’m closer to my kids and the Inglewood CBD.”
In February this year, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council, reopened Casa Mia, showcasing the Council’s commitment to long-term housing solutions.
“It’s been a long journey to reach this point. Four years of hard work and dedication, so we are proud to welcome these new residents to a facility that supports their independence,” said Mayor Springborg.
The committee overseeing tenancy applications includes committed local community members who are professionals across different areas including local healthcare.
Similar to the Pariagara units in Inglewood and Council’s partnership with local groups for independent living units in Texas, this project aims to continue supporting the region's aging population and enhancing community well-being.
These newly refurbished units will provide safe, affordable, and independent living options for elderly residents, ensuring they can continue to call Inglewood home with dignity and security.
Texas-born Sybil Davis said she has enjoyed having new neighbours. “It’s a real comfort knowing we have a little community where we can check up on one another and help each other out.”
The $2.65 million refurbishment was made possible with a contribution of $1.5 million from the Queensland Housing Investment Fund.
Tenancy applications for Casa Mia are still being accepted for the waiting list. Applications are subject to state government conditions, including eligibility testing for tenancy. For more information, please visit: www.grc.qld.gov.au/Residents/Communtiy/Housing
