Goondiwindi Regional Council is inviting residents to share their feedback on the final preliminary design for the Goondiwindi CBD Streetscape Project. An online survey is now open, with in-person pop up consultation opportunities to follow in the coming weeks.
The survey seeks feedback on priorities such as accessibility, landscaping, parking, signage, and overall town presentation. This is a key opportunity for the community to shape the future look and function of the Goondiwindi central business district (CBD) before the project progresses to detailed design and costing.
In-person pop-up opportunities:
- Wednesday 29 October: 10am – 1pm @ Goondiwindi Civic Centre
- Thursday 30 October: 10am – 1pm @ Goondiwindi Civic Centre
- Friday 7 November: 10am – 1pm @ Goondiwindi Civic Centre
- Saturday 8 November: 9am – 12pm @ Marshall Street
- Saturday 15 November: 9am – 12pm @ Marshall Street
Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said the project aims to provide a long-term vision for a vibrant, inclusive and practical CBD - a space that reflects Goondiwindi’s heritage and character while meeting the evolving needs of residents, businesses and visitors.
“This project is about planning ahead to ensure Goondiwindi remains a tidy and welcoming regional centre – enhancing our reputation as a premier liveable town and visitor destination” the Mayor said. “We want to keep our regional charm, while also improving infrastructure and preparing for future needs.”
Cr Springborg said the current streetscape is becoming outdated and starting to fall behind modern accessibility and urban design expectations. Community feedback has raised frequent concerns around limited accessibility for mobility aid users and prams, aged and expensive-to-repair/maintain concrete pavers and planters, a lack of shade, and safety and maintenance concerns around ageing palm trees.
Cr Springborg reiterated the long-term nature of the plan, which will be delivered in staged phases over several years, as funding becomes available.
“We are fortunate that some of the improvements will be achievable in the short-term. However, having this plan as a clear vision will be crucial to securing external funding and delivering these improvements over time,” he said.
The final preliminary design builds on several rounds of previous community consultation, including engagement with a steering committee of local CBD businesses. Feedback to date has helped shape project priorities such as retaining parking, enhancing low-maintenance landscaping, and improving accessibility and pedestrian safety.
Cr Springborg said Council thanks all residents who have given their input so far and encourages the community to provide feedback before the project moves into the detailed design phase.
