Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Marshall Street and Moffatt Street, Goondiwindi, will commence on Thursday 22 January 2026, with works expected to take approximately eight weeks, weather permitting.

The project will involve the construction of the new roundabout and several associated traffic islands, at the intersection.

Cr Jason Watts, Council’s portfolio holder for Transport, Roads and Youth, said that the project had been prioritised to improve traffic flow and ease of movement through the intersection.

“This upgrade is really about improving how traffic moves through this area,” Cr Watts said.

“The new roundabout will make it easier for drivers to get back onto Marshall Street without needing to perform a U-turn, helping traffic flow more smoothly while also improving safety for all road users.”

As part of the most recent Streetscape Project Survey, Council identified three locations as potential sites for roundabouts along the Goondiwindi CBD precinct, with locals agreeing they were a practical and effective way to improve traffic flow, including at the Marshall and Moffatt Street intersection.

“Marshall Street is a state-controlled road and an important link through Goondiwindi, so it’s critical that intersections like this are designed to keep traffic moving efficiently.” Cr Watts stated.

The project is jointly funded through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS), with $200,000 provided by the Queensland Government and a $200,000 contribution from the Goondiwindi Regional Council.

Local contractors Knights Plant Hire and KK Spicer Contracting have been engaged to support Council’s concrete crew in delivering the project, reinforcing Council’s commitment to supporting local businesses and skills wherever possible.

Traffic management including detours, will be in place during construction, and road users are encouraged to follow signage and allow extra travel time while works are underway.

“Impacted businesses have been notified and we thank all residents and businesses for their patience as we undertake these works.” Said Cr Watts.

Cr Watts also confirmed that early works are expected to have minimal impact on Australia Day celebrations, with Town Park remaining accessible for events scheduled for the 26 January.
