Greater Brisbane lockdown impacts Goondiwindi region as well

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer today announced a three day lock down for Greater Brisbane, and is requiring any person who has travelled through Greater Brisbane since Saturday 2 January 2021 to follow the same lockdown rules.

The lockdown applies from 6pm tonight, Friday 8 January, until 6pm Monday 11 January.  Greater Brisbane covers the council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands and Logan.

The Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council said, “For the vulnerable in our community there are few second chances with this pandemic and we must all heed the advice of the Chief Health Officer to stay home if you’ve been in the Greater Brisbane area since last Saturday.

“We must all do our bit to protect each other, if you are feeling any symptoms please get tested and stay home.  For those of you that have been in Greater Brisbane, you must stay home until Monday 6pm.

“With the recent Christmas and New Year period we expect that a number of locals have been travelling to see family and friends or holidaying in Greater Brisbane, and these people are now impacted by this latest development.  Three days at home is a small request given what has been achieved to date in successfully managing the COVID-19 pandemic.  It is important that we all remain vigilant with social distancing, hand hygiene and getting tested, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly with this new more contagious strain now in Queensland,” Cr Springborg said.

Council will continue to follow the latest guidelines from the Queensland Government about the operation of its own facilities and sharing relevant local updates as available.

The detailed lockdown rules can be found on Queensland Health’s website.  Locals impacted by the lockdown due to recent travels, can leave home for essential reasons such as groceries, accessing essential medical services and outside exercise, provided they are wearing a mask.  With the exception of essential workers, those impacted are not to attend the workplace whilst the lockdown is in place.
