Opera Takes Centre Stage: Goondiwindi Welcomes ‘Do We Need Another Hero?’ Performance

The Goondiwindi Region Councillors are again proud to support Opera Queensland’s return to Goondiwindi.

Opera Queensland is embarking on another tour across regional Queensland with a new production, ‘Do We Need Another Hero?’

Following high attendance at previous Goondiwindi performances, Opera Queensland was proud to announce a Saturday night performance on 1 June 2024 for Goondiwindi in this regional program.

Tickets for the performance are available NOW (Adult: $15; Under 16: $5). Pre-show curry meals and artisan cheese platters can be pre-ordered at the time of ticket purchase.

The performance is proudly sponsored by the Councillors who have agreed to undertake the roles of the bar staff, ushers and chef, with all proceeds from the night going to the local Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program enriches the lives of children in the region through the power of reading.

Featuring captivating storytelling by The Opera Queensland Regional Tour 2024, 'Do We Need Another Hero?' celebrates songs of bravery and heroism across opera, country, and classical genres. Expect to hear chart-topping anthems and unique mashups, ensuring a night that will have everyone dancing in their seats.

Timeless hits by The Beatles, David Bowie, John Farnham and more, intertwined with opera classics from composers like Beethoven and Bizet, provide the perfect soundtrack for our story as we search for what it means to be a hero.

Councillor Susie Kelly, overseeing the portfolio for Rural Services and Community Facilities, says we saw this event as an opportunity to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library initiative, a cause we collectively value for its role in fostering childhood literacy. We're genuinely thrilled to invite all members of our community to join us for an unforgettable evening, all in the spirit of advancing our local childhood literacy efforts.

The core themes of 'Do We Need Another Hero?' celebrate the unique strength and superpowers within each person and encourage us to recognise the often-overlooked heroes among us.

When reflecting on this, Councillor Phil O'Shea, who holds the portfolio for Arts and Culture, says we found this message to resonate seamlessly with the spirit of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library initiative, inspiring us all to come together and embrace the transformative power of storytelling, particularly for the youngest members of our community.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program sends a new book to registered children in the region every month, from birth until their fifth birthday, directly to their mailbox. This initiative encourages parental engagement in reading and has shown significant improvements in language and literacy development during the crucial early years. We are thankful to the program partners CARE Goondiwindi, United Way Australia, and other sponsors for their support.
