Yelarbon Silo Art Project Powers Ahead

The Yelarbon Silo Art project is powering ahead with the first stage of the artwork to be completed by 30 June 2019.

The Yelarbon Community Consultation Committee has nominated a committee of local community members to support Council in bringing the project to life.

The nominated committee will consult with shortlisted artists to create concept artwork for the project, with the selected artwork to be chosen by a community vote. Committee members include David Cooper, Terri-Ann Crothers, Mark Hyde, Rick McDougall, Will Officer, Tony Stepney and Jamie Tait.

The vision for the project is for the Yelarbon silos to be nationally recognised as a high quality artwork and an iconic art destination. The selected artwork will be site-specific and must capture the character, culture and identity of Yelarbon and its place in the Goondiwindi Regional Council area.

Several highly talented professional artists submitted expressions of interest to Goondiwindi Regional Council for the project.

The EOI application asked artists to consider the local landscape, character, heritage and history, along with the artwork’s relevance for today and for generations to come. Applications were assessed against their response to the brief, artistic merit, value for money, and the artists’ experience.

The two shortlisted artists now have until the middle of February to produce concept artwork in consultation with the project committee.
