COVID-19 Update 4

« Back

In line with the new guidelines regarding public gatherings announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison at his Sunday night press conference, the following Council facilities will close today, 30 March 2020:

  • All playgrounds and play areas;
  • All skate parks;
  • All outdoor gym equipment;
  • All reserves are closed to camping;
  • The Goondiwindi Town Common;
  • The Goondiwindi Botanic Gardens (vehicle entrance and playground fence);
  • The Goondiwindi Natural Heritage and Water Park;
  • The Inglewood basketball courts.

Camping will not be permitted at any of the reserves in our region, including the stock routes. However, the stock routes themselves will remain open.

As per the latest advice from the Australian Government, Goondiwindi Regional Council reminds residents that gatherings should be limited to a maximum of two people (not including members of the same household).

The limit applies to both indoor and outdoor gatherings. Exceptions apply to funerals and weddings.

Under the current Government guidelines, residents should not leave their homes except for the following circumstances:

  • Shopping for essentials;
  • Medical care or compassionate needs;
  • Exercise (no more than two people in a group);
  • Work or education, if this cannot be done from home.

The Queensland Police will be working with Council in the coming weeks to monitor the closure of Council-managed facilities and ensure compliance.
