New Pfizer super clinic in Texas this week – residents from both sides of border encouraged to get their jab

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM is encouraging local residents from both sides of the border to get their vaccine at a two-day super clinic announced for Texas later this week.

Darling Downs Health will hold the Pfizer-only vaccination clinic at the Texas Memorial Hall on Thursday 19 August and Friday 20 August from 8.30 am – 5.30 pm. The clinic will be walk-in appointments only.

Goondiwindi Regional Council understands that residents from both sides of the border will be able to attend the clinic, as New South Wales Border Zone residents may enter Queensland to receive a COVID-19 vaccination (provided they have not been in a COVID-19 hotspot outside the Border Zone).

Everyone aged 16 years and above will be eligible to attend the vaccination clinic. Residents should bring their ID, Medicare card, and a pen.

Cr Springborg is urging all residents over 16 in the Texas area to strongly consider getting their vaccine at the clinic.

“I’m asking all residents to take advantage and consider getting their vaccine at this clinic if they can,” the Mayor said. “We are the envy of the state to have had such easy access to the vaccine for everyone over the age of 16 thanks to Darling Downs Health, and I’m urging everyone to make the most of this opportunity.

“This of course complements the great effort from the Texas Family Medical Centre to get locals vaccinated. The clinic will be working alongside the vaccination services offered by the Medical Centre, and I really want to say a big thank you to all our local healthcare providers for their service and continued commitment to protecting our community.

“We are a border community and, as the situation escalates in New South Wales, we need to be extremely cautious and ensure we take every step necessary to prevent the virus from reaching our towns. That means ensuring as many people as possible have access to the vaccine – and that includes residents from both sides of the border.”

The vaccine is available locally at the Goondiwindi Medical Centre, the Inglewood Medical Centre and the Texas Family Medical Centre, as well as numerous local pharmacies in the region.

Darling Downs Health will also be holding a vaccination clinic at the Warwick Showgrounds from Tuesday 24 August to Friday 27 August 8.30 am - 3.50 pm, and Saturday 28 August 8.30 am - 1 pm. Walk-in appointments are also available for both Astra Zeneca and Pfizer at the Toowoomba Baillie Henderson Hospital Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 4 pm.

Residents should contact their GP with any questions or concerns about the COVID-19 vaccination.
