Expect More Changes to Restrictions

“It is my understanding that the Queensland Government are continuing to update and refine the Border Restrictions Directive and associated passes.  As a minimum, we know that the current class exemption for the Agriculture sector will expire at midnight tonight.  I certainly understand how frustrating it is and Council has been active in advocating for improved clarity and certainty in the new restrictions and advice available to residents on both sides of the border,” said the Mayor.

“I cannot stress enough that it is essential that you continue to keep abreast of the latest Queensland Health and New South Wales Health advice before attempting to cross the border.

Thanks to Deputy Premier for Funds to Support Council Border Closure Costs

Goondiwindi Mayor, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM has thanked Dr Steven Miles, Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government, for his announcement today that local governments on the frontline of Queensland’s COVID-19 border closure with New South Wales will be eligible to share in $1 million from the Queensland Government to cover the costs of border control.

“The funds will help to cover the costs incurred managing and implementing border crossing restrictions, which for our region is in excess of $100,000.  Council has actively worked with the State Government to effectively and quickly implement border restrictions that protect the whole of Queensland.  We welcome this announcement today that our ratepayers are not going to have to foot the whole bill,” said the Mayor.

“Every council across Queensland is working hard to keep their communities safe, but it’s particularity challenging for rural councils on the front-line,” Dr Miles said.
