GOONDIWINDI REGION COVID-19 UPDATE – 6 NOVEMBER 2021

« Back

Queensland Health has this morning [Saturday 6 November 2021] confirmed that there was one new positive case of COVID-19 recorded in Goondiwindi overnight.

This latest case is linked to the Moree outbreak and, unfortunately, the person was not vaccinated.

The person was a known close contact of an existing case, and has been in home quarantine. They will be transferred to a COVID-designated facility (hospital) in southeast Queensland.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said “This is the fourth person that has tested positive in Goondiwindi in recent days, all linked to the Moree outbreak.  We are again seeing that the virus is amongst the unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people.  This reinforces the importance of vaccination - protecting ourselves, our family and our community.

Queensland Health also issued a new Queensland Border Directive overnight, replacing the 5 November 2021 Border Restrictions Directive 51.  This new Directive further limits travel between restricted border LGAs (ie Moree Plains Shire) and Queensland. In particular, it requires people who need to travel into Queensland for ‘permitted purposes’ to be fully vaccinated.   Fully vaccinated means the person must have received the prescribed number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and it has been two weeks since the final dose.

For further information about the restricted zone and a list of comprehensive FAQs, visit Queensland Health website - Travelling to Queensland | Health and wellbeing | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au)

The Mayor said “As a community, our high vaccination rates continue to keep us safe.  Going forward over the coming days, I think we need to continue to be cautious, but certainly not alarmed.

“I remind residents that if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested.”

Testing at Goondiwindi Hospital requires you to call ahead on 4578 2400, bring your phone charger, water, and medications - there may be a wait.  Testing is available from 8am -4:30pm, but if you need emergency care and you have COVID-19 symptoms call ahead for assistance.  For additional testing locations, visit: www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing

Queensland Health have advised that they are currently investigating whether the new case was in the community for a day before quarantining.  At the time of release, there was no additional information on this, and residents are encouraged to monitor the Queensland Health website for any updates - www.health.qld.gov.au/tracing
