GOONDIWINDI REGION COVID-19 UPDATE – 8 NOVEMBER 2021

« Back

Queensland Health has again confirmed there are no new COVID-19 cases recorded in Goondiwindi overnight.

Goondiwindi Mayor, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said, “I welcome the good news that there are no additional cases in Goondiwindi again today.

“I am aware that several news outlets have referenced a ‘Goondiwindi cluster’.  The reality however is that we have not had any community transmission.  The cases identified at the Goondiwindi Hospital were all directly linked to the Moree outbreak, or a direct household contact that were already in quarantine.  To date there has been no unexplained or unlinked community transmission in Goondiwindi and we’ve consistently seen high testing rates in Goondiwindi to confirm this.

“There are now over 100 positive cases over the border, mostly in Moree Plains local government area, and these are associated with the super spreader gatherings in Moree in late October.  Unfortunately, the vast majority of these are unvaccinated.

“The latest vaccination data was also released today and I am incredibly pleased to report that our 1st dose vaccination rate has risen by another 2.4% in the last week to 93.3%, and the 2nd dose has risen 2.1% to 83.6%.

“This community continues to lead the way in our State, and I can’t thank you enough for being committed to protecting yourselves, your family, your community and our State.

"I remind residents that if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested and isolate until you get your results.”

“The Goondiwindi Hospital is providing an exceptional service for our community and the turnaround times for COVID test results from the hospital have been excellent,” said the Mayor.

Testing at Goondiwindi Hospital requires you to call ahead on 4578 2400, bring your phone charger, water and medications - there may be a wait.  Testing is available from 8am -4:30pm, but if you need emergency care and you have COVID-19 symptoms call ahead for assistance.  For additional testing locations, visit: www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing

The vaccination clinic at the Goondiwindi Showgrounds is still operating from 6am to 10pm daily (until further notice).  This is open to anyone over the age of 12, and no appointment is required.  This is in addition to the Goondiwindi pharmacies and Goondiwindi Medical Centre vaccination availability.
