GOONDIWINDI REGION COVID-19 UPDATE – 12 NOVEMBER 2021

« Back

Queensland Health has this morning confirmed there are two new COVID-19 cases linked through Goondiwindi to the Moree cluster, both of these cases were in quarantine as existing close contacts and have not been in the community.

Goondiwindi Mayor, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM said, “The new cases identified are directly related to the Moree outbreak, and already in quarantine.  To date there has been no unexplained or unlinked community transmission in Goondiwindi.

“There are now over 130 positive cases in Moree Plains local government area, and these are associated with the super spreader gatherings in Moree in late October.  Unfortunately, the vast majority of these are unvaccinated.

“As the Queensland government reviews the status of the Restricted Border Zone, I have proposed to the government on behalf of Council that New South Wales border residents who are double vaccinated should be able to cross into their Queensland community.  They should be able to attend school, work, shop and volunteer.   They should have the same social reward for their diligence and preparedness as Goondiwindi residents who have the highest vaccination rates in Queensland.  This should not extend to unvaccinated cross border residents who should be limited to coming into our community except for emergency purposes - everyone in this area has had plenty of time and opportunity to access the vaccine.

“The latest vaccination data [as at Sunday 7 November] shows Goondiwindi region continuing to lead the State with 93.3% first dose and 83.6% double vaccinated.

I remind residents that if you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested and isolate until you get your results.”

“The Goondiwindi Hospital is providing an exceptional service for our community and the turnaround times for COVID test results from the hospital have been excellent,” said the Mayor.

Testing at Goondiwindi Hospital requires you to call ahead on 4578 2400, bring your phone charger, water and medications - there may be a wait.  Testing is available from 8am -4:30pm, but if you need emergency care and you have COVID-19 symptoms call ahead for assistance.  For additional testing locations, visit: www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing
