  • A FREE interactive workshop to strengthen local organisation and business capability is to be held in Goondiwindi on Wednesday 22 November
  • The FREE workshop will cover how to develop an effective business continuity plan to reinforce and safeguard business operations when faced with unexpected events
  • This workshop is a collaboration between Goondiwindi Regional Council and the Community Service Industry Alliance (CSIA)

Goondiwindi Regional Council and the Community Service Industry Alliance (CSIA) have collaborated to strengthen local organisations and business preparedness when faced with unexpected disaster events.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, the initiative centres around a free interactive workshop designed to assist organisations and businesses in developing effective business continuity plans (BCP), strengthening their capacity to assist their staff, community, and region.

The workshop at Gateway to Training in Goondiwindi is an invaluable opportunity for businesses and organisations to reinforce their preparedness and safeguard their operations, ensuring they can continue serving their clients and the community under challenging circumstances.

Workshop participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of what a BCP is and why it is important to their specific organisation, as well as access to tools and resources to complete a BCP and planning exercises to identify gaps in existing BCPs.

Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor, the Honourable Councillor Lawrence Springborg, said local businesses will develop the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain operations in the face of unexpected events.

"This workshop has the potential to significantly strengthen business capability during times of disaster and emergency events by implementing the tools and resources provided in this training," Cr Springborg added, "The workshop is based on real-world scenarios making it relevant to our region."

While the workshop aims to empower local entities with the knowledge and skills to create and implement comprehensive BCPs, it also allows time to network with local business owners and community organisations.

CSIA CEO, Cheryl Schmidt said they are committed to bolstering Goondiwindi's community resilience and ensuring its ability to withstand unforeseen challenges.

"We are pleased to partner with Council on this important initiative and have our Industry Engagement Manager, Mandy Strathearn, connecting closely with local organisations,” Cheryl added, “After completing the workshop participants will be more prepared, resilient, and connected to their local community and able to provide effective services even in the face of unexpected weather events or other crises, ensuring that the local community remains supported.”
