Goondiwindi Regional Council introduces a keyless entry system for improved security and accessibility

  • Goondiwindi Regional Council has increased security at locations throughout the region including the Goondiwindi Waggamba Community Cultural Centre and the Inglewood Civic Centre
  • The keyless entry system improves convenience and accessibility especially in situations when individuals or organisations require out-of-hours access
  • Key fobs are small devices that can be programmed to allow access for a specific amount of time

Goondiwindi Regional Council has installed an IT security upgrade and streamlined access at some of its key assets across the region. The Goondiwindi Waggamba Community Cultural Centre and the Inglewood Civic Centre have been equipped with a modern keyless entry system. These upgrades improve the safety of authorised individuals and enhance the efficiency of upcoming events for organisers using the facilities.

This project is partially funded by the Queensland Government’s Work for Queensland (W4Q) program.

The security system, installed earlier this month, offers numerous benefits that combine convenience, safety, and ease of use to both organisations and individuals who wish to hire these Council facilities.

Organisations can elect authorised personnel to be provided with key fobs to access the designated facility for an arranged amount of time, simplifying the setup and packdown process for events whilst improving the security for those using the facilities before and after office hours.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Councillor Lawrence Springborg AM, said there is always a risk of unauthorised access if a key is lost or stolen, so to mitigate that, we installed this security measure.

“Lost or compromised fobs can be deactivated and removed from the IT system as soon as we are notified or if the access period has expired, limiting the potential of unauthorised individuals entering the premises,” Cr Springborg said.

There is a minimal cost involved in purchasing fobs and this proactive approach saves Council hundreds of dollars on replacing associated fittings for all the doors including the locks and keys at these facilities.

The remote access functionality of the key fob entry system also allows Council to monitor the security of the building and perform remote IT support from its site offices for greater control and responsiveness to security needs.

Cr Springborg said, “The implementation of the keyless entry system demonstrates our commitment to employing innovative solutions to improve safety, reduce costs to ratepayers and ensure the efficient operation of these facilities for individuals.”
