Free Bush Kids First Aid Workshops for the Region’s Youngest Residents

« Back

As part of their ongoing commitment to building a resilient community, Goondiwindi Regional Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Bush Kids First Aid workshops, designed to equip children aged 5-13 with essential first aid skills specific to rural living.

The workshops will run over the 13th and 14th of December, visiting Goondiwindi, Yelarbon, and Texas, with two sessions being held in Goondiwindi.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, extends an invitation to all ‘bush kids’ and their families to participate in this unique opportunity to instil essential life-saving skills.

“I encourage our young residents to embrace this opportunity to learn the principles of basic first aid. These skills are important, particularly in rural and remote areas where they can become crucial, and time is of the essence.

“These workshops are not just an opportunity for our youth to learn fundamental skills; they are also a vital step in building resilience for our rural families,” Mayor Springborg highlights.

The workshops, facilitated by Cool Kids First Aid, who are specialists in delivering children’s first aid programs, will offer a hands-on and age-appropriate learning experience. Each two-hour session will cover emergency management and essential first-aid skills, including how to treat a snake bite.

Given the reported high levels of snake activity in our region, these workshops are even more timely. As part of the program, participants will receive their own snake bite kit to take home, ensuring they are well-prepared for potential encounters.

The Bush Kids First Aid series complement the community group workshops held by Council throughout the year, such as the Resilient Gardens Day, Volunteer Week events and Generating Income workshops.

Council requests that a parent or guardian stay for the duration of the workshop.

Due to limited space, interested parties must register in advance to secure their spot.
