Free Emergency Information Magnets for Rural Landholders

« Back

In a concerted effort to enhance disaster and emergency preparedness among rural landholders, Goondiwindi Regional Council is distributing free emergency information magnets to every rural household over the coming weeks. The initiative is part of Council’s ongoing disaster preparedness activities aimed at equipping residents with essential skills, resources and confidence to navigate times of disaster effectively.

Each rural household will receive a specially designed magnet capable of displaying crucial emergency information in the mail over the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to complete these magnets with the important details and place them in easily accessible locations, such as workshop fridges or in toolboxes. In the event of an emergency, having immediate and easy access to vital information, like the airstrip coordinates, can significantly contribute to a swift and effective response.

All Goondiwindi Region residents with PO Box or a rural mail service will receive a magnet, if you are a town resident with a PO Box, please feel free to return the magnet to Council’s Customer Service team or give to a neighbour.

The distribution of the emergency magnet is just one facet of Council’s broader disaster preparedness initiatives. Complimentary to this project, Council has also revamped the disaster section of its website to provide residents with up to date and easily accessible information. Additionally, the recent Bush Kid First Aid Workshops, development of individual township ‘Flood FAQ’ documents, and school visits across the region form part of a proactive approach to bolstering community preparedness.

Council also reminds rural residents to check their rural addressing sign, and to get in contact should it need replacing. Signs need to be clearly visible from both directions and free from roadside weeds and other visual obstructions.

Clearly visible rural addressing signage is the quickest and easiest way for emergency services to find you when time is of the essence, so it is important that these continue to be maintained.

The application for rural addressing can be found on Council’s website: rural-address-information-sheet-and-application-form-pdf (grc.qld.gov.au)
