Free Bush Kids First Aid Workshops return to the Goondiwindi region

  • Goondiwindi Regional Council reaffirms its commitment to building a prepared community by announcing the return of the Bush Kids First Aid workshops.
  • These workshops are designed to equip the region's youngest residents with essential first-aid skills tailored to rural living.
  • Workshops are on the 8th and 9th of April in Goondiwindi, Inglewood, and Talwood. Registration is essential.

Following the success of last year's workshops in Texas, Yelarbon and Goondiwindi, where over 120 local bush kids gained invaluable first aid skills, Council is excited to announce the return of the Bush Kids First Aid Workshops, this time in Inglewood, Talwood and Goondiwindi.

Held during the Easter school holidays, the two-hour sessions which Cool Kids First Aid facilitates provide crucial life-saving skills and tools for recognising the unique challenges of rural living to the youngest members of our community.

As funding draws to a close, this year's workshops mark the last opportunity in 2024 to benefit from this initiative.

Positive feedback from previous attendees highlights the educational value of these workshops, with one parent saying, "Our boys loved it, and I even found it educational for a brush up on skills. We appreciate the opportunity to do it, and it is free too – thank you for organising it!"

The workshops will run on 8th and 9th of April in Goondiwindi, Inglewood, and Talwood. Each session covers a range of age-appropriate emergency management and first-aid skills, including how to treat a snake bite.

Participants will receive a snake bite kit and an emergency services contact magnet to take home.

The previous workshops were all focused on 5 -13 year-olds, however in response to community requests, Council is pleased to introduce a dedicated session for 13 -17 year-olds in Goondiwindi. This session will cover the same content but delivered in a format best suited for teenagers.

The Bush Kids First Aid series complements an existing suite of initiatives, including the ‘Community Wellbeing’ workshops with Chantal Corish, the Rural Psychologist and the ‘Inglewood Community Healthy Lifestyle’ program in collaboration with Inglewood Community health nurses.

Council requests that a parent or guardian stay for the duration of the workshop, and due to limited numbers, interested parties must register in advance to secure their spot.
