Inglewood main street

Canary Island palm tree replacement in Albert Street will commence this week

Goondiwindi Regional Council has received confirmation from a specialist arborist that the Canary Island Palm located at the end of the median strip in Albert Street, Inglewood, has died following a lightning strike earlier in the year.

Despite the efforts of Council to nurture the tree, its removal has now become a priority due to the safety risk posed by falling palm fronds.

The removal of the tree is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 12 March by an arborist from Goondiwindi.  Signage will be in place to direct traffic, ensuring minimal interruptions. The safety of the contractors, motorists and residents is top priority during the tree removal process.

Later in the week, the stump will be removed and the hole filled with sand until a suitable replacement Canary Island Palm tree can be sourced.

Whilst the arborist is onsite, the other nine trees that line the median strip, a mix of Canary Island Palms and Cocos or Queen Palms, will be pruned and tidied to enhance the aesthetics of the main street of Inglewood.
