Mayor and Councillors for Goondiwindi Regional Council have taken their oath of office for the 2024-28 term this morning.

The Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, said I want to thank our outgoing Councillors, Lachlan Brennan and Rick Kearney, for their dedicated service and commitment to our community.

“Former Councillor Brennan brought a youthful perspective over the last two Council terms, being one of the youngest Councillors elected in Queensland and has keenly contributed to many communities across the region.

“Former Councillor Kearney had been a Councillor for Goondiwindi Regional Council since its amalgamation in 2008 and a Councillor for Goondiwindi Town Council before that. During his tenure he has fulfilled critical roles, including Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group.

“Both of your contributions will continue to be appreciated by the community. I wish both gentlemen the best in your future endeavours.

“I would also like to congratulate the newly elected Councillors, Councillor Kym Skinner and Councillor Julia Spicer OAM, who will bring their expertise, experience, fresh ideas and passion for the region to the team.

“I also wish to congratulate returning Councillors, Susie Kelly, Rob Mackenzie, Phil O’Shea and Jason Watts.

"My fellow Councillors and I look forward to continuing regular visits to all communities across the region.  There is much to do in this term, and the work starts straight away with the development of the upcoming financial year’s budget,” said the Mayor.

There will be a Post Election Council meeting to elect the Deputy Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair on Wednesday 3 April 2024, at 9 am.

Council has also confirmed that its first Ordinary Meeting will occur on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, at 11 am.
